Biography

Mishy Kope is a South African singer and songwriter whose music blends the rich textures of Afro-folk and soul. Rooted deeply in her cultural heritage, she writes primarily in isiXhosa - her native language - crafting songs that are both personal and powerfully resonant. Raised in the lush rural landscapes of the Eastern Cape, Mishy's musical journey began in primary school choirs and Sunday school melodies, where she first discovered the expressive power of music. Her lyrics are inspired by everyday life and social issues, often evoking deep emotional responses through honest and reflective storytelling. She released her debut pop single, I'll Wait, in 2022, before redefining her sound with her first isiXhosa single, Qongqotha - a stirring anthem of self-confrontation and authenticity. Since then, she has continued to expand her discography with poignant singles such as Sanalam, Mama, Umntu Ngumntu Ngabantu, Mntakwethu, and her most recent release, Kufa - a protest chant against death and a cry for hope. Mishy Kope remains dedicated to creating music that speaks to the heart of human experience, using her voice to uplift, challenge, and connect.
